Christmas and New Year Ice Party - Shrigley Hall Cheshire
Former detective-turned-whistle-blower Maggie Oliver is best known for her courageous role in exposing the notorious Rochdale child sexual abuse scandal. Her decision to speak out publicly about what she saw as institutional failures to investigate and prosecute hundreds of men involved in ‘grooming gangs’ cost Maggie her job as a Detective in Greater Manchester Police Major Incident Team, but through her work on 5 BAFTA award winning drama Three Girls, ultimately led to millions realising that the grooming of young girls for sexual exploitation was a national problem.
The Christmas and New Year Ice Party was arranged as fundraiser for the foundation to help Maggie continue in her support for victims of sexual abuse and ‘Transform Pain into Power’
The Maggie Oliver Centre, will start its life in Rochdale. It will be run by volunteers and survivors who will be able to provide a much needed and valued support to those who have been affected by sexual abuse, and help them access support, legal advice therapy as well as training and education.
I was honoured to be asked to both host the evening at Shrigley Hall and take photographs to promote the foundation. Below are a few images from the evening which was a great success and is just one important part of the ongoing project by Maggie. Well done to all involved in the organisation of the event, particularly Becky who worked around the clock to make sure everything ran smoothly.
I’m sure everyone’s appreciation goes to all those who participated, particularly those who performed on the evening, including Palmerston, Halle Brown, Leanne Brown, Hilary John, Miss Cyndi Sinful and Bailey La Creame. Also a massive thank you to those who donated raffle/auction prizes including Tanya Bardot Boutique and Daniel Pitts Art Suburban Green, The Drum and Monkey, Shrigley Hall (Apologies if i missed you but there were so many donations) and importantly, those guests who dug deep to purchase them. A fantastic amount of money was raised that will make a massive difference to the foundation in supporting victims of sexual abuse. If you wish to obtain any of the images please drop me a line via my contact page. Any profit from the images sold will go direct to the Maggie Oliver Foundation.
Since the success of the fundraiser, Maggie continues to work tirelessly to support victims of abuse and has made numerous appearances at events and spoken on National Television and Radio. Keep up the fantastic work Maggie.
